Dental Crowns | Dental Clinic in Antalya

Dental crown is a type of dental restoration used to fix teeth, fitting over the remaining part of a prepared tooth, making it strong and giving it the shape and color of a natural tooth. This gives a more natural appearance, so it fits in with the rest of your teeth.
There are two types of dental crowns that we apply in our clinic; Metal Supported Porcelain Crowns and Zirconium Crowns.
At Akdeniz İnci Dental Clinic, we offer you dental crown treatments to get rid of your aesthetic concerns about your dental appearance. In that treatment, there is no need to do something surgical. For example, after dental filling treatment, you may not have a natural-looking tooth. In order to fix this problem totally your dentist may recommend you dental crown treatment. Because crowns look like natural teeth and they seem more aesthetic. And weak teeth can be protected by using dental crowns. It covers totally the tooth so it will not affect by any kind of damage.
What is Metal supported Porcelain Crown?
Metal supported porcelain crowns can be used to replace a single tooth, or as a bridge. The metal alloy in
the substructure of the tooth formation is extremely durable but has low light transmittance. These crowns
are more robust and durable, and are generally used for the rear teeth (molars) that are exposed to
pressure when chewing. Metal supported porcelain crowns are often used in tandem with implants.
However, metal supported porcelain crowns are not often used to replace front teeth, as they do not
transmit light effectively. When designing a new smile for our patients we recommend veneers with a
higher permeability and more natural appearance such as zirconium crowns for these anterior teeth.
What is Zirconium Crown?
Zirconium dental crown is the most popular dental crown type nowadays. Zirconium is a kind of special ceramic. This material gives teeth a more natural looking, if you compare it to metal dental crowns. Zirconium also prevents black shadow thanks to the light passing feature. So you will have natural-looking
teeth totally. Some people can have an allergy to metals. Zirconium can be helpful for patients who have
an allergy to any kind of metal. Also, zirconium crowns are more resistant to the sensation of cold and hot.
Also if you smoke regularly, zirconium may prevent the teeth discolouration considerably.
How do we make Metal Supported Porcelain Crowns / Zirconium Crowns?
In your first session, some of your natural tooth structure will be reshaped to accommodate new dental
crowns. On the second day, temporary crowns will be worn while custom metal-supported / zirconium
crowns are made in our laboratories. On the fourth day, the temporary ones will be removed when the
new metal-supported / zirconium crowns are ready. Finally, new metal-supported / zirconium crowns will
be placed in the mouth. We do the control sessions the next two day after the dental crowns are placed in
the mouth. The duration of treatment for dental crowns is usually 6 days.
How Long Do Dental Crowns Last?
Dental crowns can last about 15-20 years with proper use and good care. However, changes of the mouth
structure later in life may cause the zirconium / metal supported porcelain crowns to be adapted or
replaced where necessary. A crowns longevity depends on the care and attention you give to all your
teeth. A good dental hygiene routine and regular checkups are recommended. Remember that just
because your natural tooth has a crown, it’s still susceptible to gum disease, so make sure you take care of
your whole mouth.
Will there be any damage to the underlying natural tooth in the event of the zirconia crown being replaced?
The patient will not feel any discomfort when the crown is removed, and there will be no loss of the
natural underlying tooth tissue.
